  2. Tap WhatsApp. The converted text is copied to your clipboard at once.
  3. Tap Open WhatsApp to pick a chat, or paste it into any chat yourself.
  4. Check the message preview in WhatsApp: bold and italic render after sending.

What to know

WhatsApp has its own small formatting language: one asterisk on each side for bold, underscores for italic, tildes for strikethrough, backticks for inline code and three backticks for a monospace block. Markdown uses two asterisks for bold and one for italic, so pasting an AI answer into WhatsApp shows stray ** marks and turns some words italic by accident. This conversion rewrites every mark into the WhatsApp form.

Headings become bold lines, numbered and bulleted lists keep their numbers and • bullets with indentation for nested items, quotes keep the > prefix WhatsApp also understands, and links are written out as the text followed by the address. Tables have no equivalent in WhatsApp, so each row becomes a short block: the first cell in bold, then one Header: value line per column.

WhatsApp only applies formatting when the marks sit at word boundaries, so the converter puts each pair of marks directly around the words and keeps spaces outside them. This output is free and unlimited, and nothing you paste leaves your browser.

Questions

How do I make text bold in WhatsApp?

Put one asterisk on each side of the words, with no space inside: *like this*. This page does that for every bold part of the text.

What happens to tables?

Each row becomes a block with the first cell in bold and one Header: value line per column, which reads well on a phone.

Does it work for Telegram or Signal too?

Telegram uses ** for bold, like Markdown, so the plain text or the original is usually better there. Signal applies formatting from its own menu, so use Plain text.

Is there a limit?

No. Text outputs are unlimited on the free plan.

The free plan covers everything on this page. Chat Export Pro ($9.50 until Oct 25, then $19, paid once) is described on the Chat Export page.
