QR code with no expiration: free codes that keep working

QR code no expiration with QR Studio

A code only dies when it depends on a service that stops. This page opens on a link code and explains the two kinds, so you know exactly what keeps working and what does not.

  1. Paste the web address into the form; the normal code on the right never expires.
  2. Download the PNG or SVG and keep the file; nothing about it depends on us.
  3. If the address might change, press "Make this code editable and trackable" below.
  4. Remember: a trackable code keeps redirecting even if you stop paying.

What to know

There are two kinds of QR code. A normal (static) code stores the address inside the picture. Nothing can switch it off, because no service is involved: it works as long as the website it points to works. Our normal codes are drawn in your browser, with no account and no watermark.

A dynamic code stores a short link instead, which redirects to your address. That is what lets you change the destination and count scans, and it is also how many generators trap you: when the trial ends, the redirect stops and every printed code goes dead. Here the redirect keeps working after a lapse; only editing, additional codes and history beyond 30 days pause.

The practical advice is the same for any generator: for a poster you will print once and never change, a normal code is the safest choice. Use a trackable one only when you need to edit the destination or measure scans.

Questions

Do free QR codes expire?

Normal codes made here never expire, because everything is inside the picture. Some other services use redirect links that stop when a trial ends; that is why a code can stop working.

Why did my QR code stop working?

If it was a dynamic code from a paid service, the redirect was probably switched off when the plan ended. A normal code only fails if the website it points to is gone.

What happens to my trackable code if I stop paying?

It keeps redirecting to its last destination. You lose editing beyond one code, the longer history and the extra codes, but nothing you printed stops working.

Can I convert a trackable code into a normal one?

Yes: copy the destination address, switch to a normal code with that address, and download it. Existing printed codes will keep working through the redirect.

The free plan covers everything on this page. QR Studio Pro ($5/mo, billed monthly) is described on the QR Studio page.
