Image to JPG under 1 MB with Upload Fitter
This page opens with a JPG under 1000 KB rule, for uploads that say the file must be under 1 MB. Choose a PNG, HEIC or phone photo; the tool keeps the full size where it can and lowers quality only as far as needed.
- Tap Choose photos and pick the image.
- The JPG under 1 MB rule is selected; most photos fit at high quality and full size.
- Check the pixel size and quality shown above the preview.
- Download or share the JPG when the badge says Fits.
What to know
1 MB here is 1,000,000 bytes, the stricter reading, so the file also passes a form that means 1,048,576. A 12-megapixel phone photo is usually 2 to 5 MB; at 80 to 90% quality and up to 3200 pixels on the long side it typically ends between 600 KB and 1 MB, which keeps it sharp on any screen.
PNG screenshots and graphics with transparency are put on a white background, since JPG has no transparency. Converting a PNG photo or screenshot to JPG often makes it much smaller with no visible change at normal viewing size.

Questions
Does it change the photo's pixel size?
Only if quality alone cannot reach the limit. Very large images are first limited to 3200 pixels on the long side for memory, which is still more than most forms need.
What about transparent PNGs?
Transparent areas become white, because JPG cannot store transparency.
Why is the file a little under the limit, not exactly on it?
Each try is a finished file. The tool keeps the highest JPEG quality whose file is at or under the maximum, so it usually lands a few kilobytes below it. It counts the maximum as 1,000 bytes per KB, the stricter reading, so the file also passes a form that counts 1,024.
Are my photos sent anywhere?
No. They are read and encoded in your browser. When you download or share, the page sends only a count request (a random ID for this browser and a one-way hash of your network address, deleted after 2 days) for the free daily limit.
The free plan covers everything on this page. Upload Fitter Pro ($9.50 until Oct 25, then $19, paid once) is described on the Upload Fitter page.
