A service status page your customers can check before they contact support.

Service status with Statusboard

The page is set up for customer-facing services: the main site, the customer portal and payments. The banner at the top tells customers in one line whether everything is working.

  1. Name each service the way customers know it and add URLs where you can.
  2. Save and link the page from your contact and help pages.
  3. When a service is affected, post an incident and select the affected components.
  4. Update the incident as things change and resolve it when service is back.

What to know

Customers contact support during an outage because they cannot tell whether the problem is theirs. A status page answers that question in one glance, and during a real incident it replaces dozens of identical replies with one update everyone can read.

The banner is calculated from the components and incidents: all systems operational, partial outage, major outage, scheduled maintenance, or some systems experiencing issues. You never have to remember to change it by hand when a check fails.

Services without a URL, such as payments handled by a provider or a phone line, can still be listed. Their state changes through incidents, so the page covers everything customers depend on, not only what can be checked over HTTP.

Questions

Does the page refresh for visitors?

Yes. The page reloads its data every minute, without a full reload.

Can I list services without a URL?

Yes. They show as operational unless an open incident affects them.

Is the page indexed by search engines?

No. Status pages are marked noindex so they do not compete with your own site.

Is Statusboard free?

Yes: one page with 3 components, checks every 5 minutes, incidents and 30 days of uptime bars, with a small "Powered by Statusboard" footer. Pro is $9 a month for 5 pages, 25 components, 90 days of history, no footer and email alerts.

The free plan covers everything on this page. Statusboard Pro ($9/mo, billed monthly) is described on the Statusboard page.
