Inventory count with Scanlist
This page opens in Add quantity mode with a Location column suggested: each scan of a product you already counted adds 1 to its row, so a shelf of twelve identical items becomes one row with quantity 12. The count is saved on the phone after every scan.
- Name the list after the area you are counting, for example Aisle 2.
- Tap Start scanning. Scan one item, tap Scan next code, and continue along the shelf.
- For several identical items, scan one and type the total in its quantity box instead of scanning each.
- If the phone locks or the page reloads, open it again and press Continue to carry on with the same count.
- Export a CSV or Excel file and compare it with the stock your system expects.
What to know
A cycle count goes faster when the device does the adding up. In Add quantity mode a second scan of a code more than one and a half seconds after the first adds 1 to its row, while the camera seeing the same label for a moment longer does nothing. Switch to New row each scan when every scan should stay separate, for example when each row will later get its own location.
Counts go wrong in predictable ways: one item scanned twice because the beep was missed, a shelf skipped, a label scanned from a box of six as one unit. Keep the phone volume up so every read beeps and vibrates, and check the row count at the bottom as you go. A row can be removed with the x or by swiping it left, with Undo for a few seconds.
Pro adds what larger counts need: named lists per area that stay saved, a Location column filled from a default per list, continuous scanning without the tap between codes, and Compare, which reads the expected stock from a CSV and lists what is missing, short, over or extra.

Questions
What happens if I scan the same item twice by mistake?
In Add quantity mode its quantity goes up by 1. Press minus on that row to correct it. Pro can warn on duplicates instead of adding.
Will I lose the count if the browser closes?
No. The list is saved on the phone after each scan and edit. Open the page again and press Continue last list. Clearing the browser data does delete it, so export first.
Does it work without signal in a stockroom?
Scanning keeps working without signal once the page and the barcode reader have loaded (start the camera once while online). Exporting needs a connection for the free daily count; if it cannot be reached, one export a day is still allowed.
Can I compare my count against what the system says I have?
Yes, with Pro. Import a CSV of expected stock with a code and quantity column, and the comparison shows missing, short, over and extra items and can be downloaded.
The free plan covers everything on this page. Scanlist Pro ($5/mo, billed monthly) is described on the Scanlist page.
