SPF record for Google Workspace and Mailchimp: the record and the lookup count

Google + Mailchimp SPF with MailAuth Doctor

The builder opens with Google Workspace and Mailchimp ticked. It shows the combined record, the lookup count for the pair, and how much room is left.

  1. Keep Google Workspace and Mailchimp ticked and add any other service you use.
  2. Choose ~all while you verify, then -all.
  3. Copy the record and publish it as the single SPF TXT record on your domain.
  4. Run the domain check to confirm the live record is valid.

What to know

The combined record is v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com include:servers.mcsv.net ~all. A domain may publish only one SPF record, so a second service must be merged into the first, never added as another TXT record that starts with v=spf1.

On 2026-10-10 each of these includes measured at one DNS lookup, so the pair uses two of the ten allowed. Google publishes plain IP ranges at _spf.google.com now, which is why older advice that Google alone costs several lookups is out of date. Providers can change their records at any time, so re-check after adding services.

SPF only covers the envelope sender. For DMARC to pass, either SPF or DKIM must also align with your From domain. Mailchimp signs with its own domain until you set up its custom DKIM, which is why a sender can pass SPF and DKIM yet still fail DMARC; the DMARC report reader shows when that happens.

Questions

What is the SPF record for Google Workspace and Mailchimp?

v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com include:servers.mcsv.net ~all. Publish it as one TXT record on your domain, and use -all once you are sure every sender is listed.

Can I have two SPF records, one for each service?

No. Two SPF records make every receiver return a permanent error. Merge the includes into a single record.

How many DNS lookups does this record use?

Two, as measured on 2026-10-10: one for each include. The limit is 10, but providers can change their records, so re-check.

Why does Mailchimp mail fail DMARC when SPF passes?

Mailchimp's bounce domain differs from your From domain, so SPF passes without aligning. Set up custom DKIM for your domain so DKIM aligns.
