Remove bodies with HAR Desk
This opens the No bodies policy on a made-up checkout. Every request body and response body is removed, with a comment in the file saying so; the sanitized HAR keeps URLs, status codes, headers and timings.
- Load your HAR and open Sanitize.
- Choose No bodies, or choose Keep only for chosen hosts and list the hosts whose bodies you are happy to share.
- Press Sanitize and check the bodies removed count.
- Download the sanitized HAR: it is much smaller and the timings and status codes are intact.
What to know
Bodies are where most customer data lives: form posts, JSON responses with names and emails, HTML pages with account details. For many support questions you do not need them, because the status code, headers, URL and timing already show where a request failed. Removing all bodies is the strongest single step the sanitizer offers, and it makes the file much smaller too.
The middle option keeps bodies only for the hosts you name, for example your own API, and still scans the kept bodies. Bodies larger than a size limit, 512 KB by default, and bodies that are binary, compressed or cannot be decoded are removed with a comment, unless you turn that off, in which case they stay unscanned and the report says so.
Removing bodies does not remove everything. URLs (paths and query strings), headers, cookies, hostnames, status text and timings are still in the file and are handled by the other rules, and the body size recorded for each response stays. Review the changed fields and the limitations before you share the file.

Questions
What is left after bodies are removed?
URLs, methods, status codes, headers, cookies, sizes and timings, all subject to the other redaction rules. The body text, base64 content and form parameter values are gone.
Can I keep bodies for my own API only?
Yes. Choose keep only for chosen hosts and list them. Kept bodies are still scanned and redacted by the rules.
Will the file still open in DevTools?
Yes. The entries keep their structure; the content has size and mime type but no text, and a comment says the body was removed.
Why did my file get smaller?
Response bodies, particularly base64 images and scripts, make up most of a typical HAR.
